St. Joseph County offering free flu shots

The St. Joseph County Health Department says it will be offering free flu shots for adults while supplies last.

The county has been hit hard with the flu this season. The latest report from the Indiana State Department of Health shows 45 people have now died in the state due to influenza. St. Joseph County is one of two counties in Indiana reporting more than 5 flu deaths.

Health officials nationwide have been concerned about how this season's flu outbreaks are hitting younger adults. In Indiana, 11 of the deaths have been for 25-49 year-olds, 17 deaths have been reported for 50-64 year-olds.

The free shots in St. Joseph County will be available at the Health Department's South Bend clinic on the 9th floor of the County-City Building from 8:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm Monday through Friday. They will also be available at the Mishawaka clinic, located at 219 Lincolnway West, on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 4:00pm. Appointments are not required.
