Benton Harbor offers resources for residents without water

Some families in Benton Harbor are longing for a resource that many of us take for granted. They're without water.

This winter's harsh temperatures have caused service lines to freeze.  So now, city officials say they're working with a few groups to provide aid.

The Renaissance Athletic Club off Graham Avenue and the Charles Gray Renaissance Center off Ninth Street will allow those affected to use their showers.  The hours for both facilities are listed below.

-Renaissance Athletic Club
Monday through Friday
8:00am to 12:00pm
3:30pm to 6:00pm

-Charles Gray Renaissance Center
Monday through Friday
5:00am to 8:00pm

You can also stop by the Benton Harbor Fire Department to fill containers with water for cooking and drinking.

-Benton Harbor Fire Dept
Monday through Sunday
10:00am to 5:00pm

A reminder to local residents throughout Michiana, as temperatures get ready to fall into the single digits again, there is one step you can take to prevent pipes from freezing.

City officials want customers to keep their water running in a very thin stream.  They say it should be about the size of pencil lead.

Also, don't worry about the cost.  City officials say it will have a minimal effect on your water bill.
