DUI crackdown starts Friday

Local police are paying special attention to impaired drivers.

Starting this Friday, police in Elkhart County are putting additional officers on the street.  It's all part of a statewide blitz to crack down on reckless driving.

March was selected because of March Madness and Saint Patrick's Day which are events that lead to a lot of drinking in bars and other places outside of the home.  Police say it's an effective way to make the streets safer.

"If you're going to get behind a car, it makes it even worse, because you could take somebody with you," says Undersheriff Sean Holmes of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department.  "And we're going to be out there looking for these people, and we're going to arrest them."

The crackdown starts Friday, February 28 and runs through March 23.
