Charges have been filed against the man accused of leading police on a chase through South Bend that resulted in multiple crashes and a pedestrian being hit and injured

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office says 34-year-old Clester Burt III is charged with operating without ever being licensed, causing serious bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and resisting law enforcement.

Police say during the chase, Burt drove the wrong way down a street and hit a half dozen parked cars. The car eventually went airborne and crashed near the intersection of Ewing Avenue and High Street.  It's at that intersection where police say he hit 40-year-old Lucky Weah.  Authorities say Weah was taken to the hospital with a severely broken leg.

Burt is also in the hospital at this time.  He is being held under police surveillance with a bond set at $100,000.
