Woman, two dogs killed in train collision

The St. Joseph County Police Department says a 60-year-old South Bend woman was killed when her car collided with a train, Sunday morning.

It happened at the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing on Quince Road, just south of Edison Road.

Police say, Vicky Long was found dead, along with two small dogs, inside her Toyota Corolla around 7:45am.

Witnesses report that Long, headed north, drove around the downed railroad crossing arms and into the path of the westbound train.

Police say it appears that all warning systems for the crossing were operating properly at the time of the crash.

Toxicology tests results are pending and investigators continue to work to figure out what caused the crash.
