ND women finish regular season undefeated

Posted:

The Notre Dame women's basketball team had 29 games on their regular season schedule; they won them all.

With a 84-60 win against #13 N.C. State, the #2 Fighting Irish moved to 29-0 on the year. Senior Natalie Achonwa lead the way for Notre Dame with 19 points against the Wolfpack.

To make the undefeated regular season even more impressive it was capped off by beating three straight top 15 ranked teams (Duke, North Carolina, and NC State).

This is the first time in school history the women's basketball team finished a regular season undefeated. When Notre Dame won the NCAA women's basketball championship in 2000-01 the team lost to Rutgers during the regular season.

Throughout the year Notre Dame has already helped rewrite the history books. For instance, the Irish became the first team to ever win the ACC regular season title in their first year in the conference since it began in 1977-78.

Notre Dame will try and continue their undefeated season in the ACC tournament which begins March 5th. The Irish will not play until March 7th in the tournament because they received a double-bye after earning the number won seed in the tourney.
