Science Olympics take place in Berrien County

Posted:

Students in Berrien County got the chance to show their science expertise.  The 27th annual Science Olympiad Competition was held at Lake Michigan College Monday morning. Students competed in various events that included building flying machines, egg drops and other science projects.

Junior High student A.J. Jillson says he created a helicopter for the flying competition, "our design was three rotors and three blades on two rotors and then on a shaft, it was rubber band-powered."

A.J.'s partner was Sydney Hildebrand, she was pleased with their 28 second flight time.  "We did really good compared to the first team in front of us, we did really good," says Hildebrand.

The top two teams from the competition will move on to the state science Olympics.
