A new phishing scam is targeting Netlfix users to take hundreds of dollars from their accounts, and potentially a 'thank you' for the opportunity to be stolen from.

Malwarebytes Unpacked first alerted people to the scam early last week.  In a video posted to YouTube, they have a member of their team actually go through the scam process step by step.  It works like this:

A user gets an email or a pop-up ad directing them to a page designed to look like the Netflix login page.  When you put in your login and password, you get sent to another page saying your account has been suspended and to call member services.  The phone number they give isn't for Netflix support, but for the scammers.

The scammers then instruct you to download "Netflix support software" that is actually malware built to steal your info.  They claim they have protected you from hackers that have illegally accessed your account and then they charge you about $400 dollars for the 'service.'  The scammers even ask you for a photo of your credit card to verify you are who you claim to be.

To avoid becoming a victim of scams like this double check URLs of sites before putting in your logins and passwords, don't send pictures of your ID or credit cards over the internet, and avoid letting others remotely access your computer.
