Michiana Christians observe Ash Wednesday

Many Michiana Christians attended Mass or service for Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent.  An ash cross marking is placed on their forehead and left there the remainder of the day, reminding parishioners of human mortality and repentance to God.

Father William Schooler of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger says Ash Wednesday is an important day for Catholics.  "Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the 40-day season of Lent, and Lent is a time of pertinence for us," said Father Schooler.

St. Pius parishioner Jennifer Steinberg said attending Ash Wednesday service is a good reminder for people today.  "It is to remind us why we are here, not only the good parts about us, but what we have to work on to improve, because we are all here to serve," said Steinberg.
