UPDATE: Two injured in two-car LaGrange County crash

Posted: Updated:

Officers say two people were injured in an accident at the intersection of State Road 5 and County Road 200 South in LaGrange County Thursday morning.

Officers on the scene say both of the injured are women. One of them, identified as 16-year-old Jaid Rex, suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital. The other victim, identified as 18-year-old Mikayla Rex, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.  Mikayla was driving one of the vehicles.  The driver of the other vehicle, 21-year-old James Troyer, was not seriously injured.

Police say the two vehicles collided in the intersection.  They believe that Mikayla's view may have been obstructed by a snow pile on the southwest corner of the intersection, keeping her from seeing the other oncoming vehicle.  The accident remains under investigation.

State Road 5 was closed for close to two hours while police investigated the scene.
