South Bend receives rebate check for energy efficient light bulbs

The City of South Bend was presented with a $65,000 rebate check from Energizing Indiana, Friday.  The check was to help offset the cost of changing the city owned parking garage's light bulbs to energy efficient bulbs.  The new light fixtures will save the city over $35,000 in electricity costs.

Trade Ally Coordinator for Energizing Indiana Kurt Kenning says South Bend has been one of the best cities at taking advantage of the rebates.  "In all of northern Indiana," Kenning said, "South Bend has been the leader at taking these rebates and putting them to work."

South Bend Deputy Mayor Mark Neal says this is another example of environmental progress the city is making.  "This project is a great example of our energy office working with programs here in the State of Indiana that we can both be green," Neal said, "and make improvements reducing our carbon footprint while at the same time save money."
