SOUTH BEND -

The man accused of seriously injuring a pedestrian as he led police on a chase through South Bend had his trial date set back.

Clester Burt III was in court Wednesday for a pretrial hearing.  His trial date was originally set for July 14, but the state filed a request for a continuance due to a witness being unavailable.  His trial is now set to begin on Nov. 17. He is currently being held on $100,000 bond.

Police say Burt led them on a chase where he drove the wrong way down a street and hit a half dozen parked cars. The suspect vehicle eventually went airborne and crashed near the intersection of Ewing Avenue and High Street.  It's at that intersection where the car hit 40-year-old Lucky Weah. Weah suffered a severely broken leg in the crash.

Burt is facing multiple charges, including causing serious bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.
