Elderly woman rescued from burning home near LaPaz

Posted: Updated:

Several people go into a burning home in Marshall County to rescue an elderly woman. That's according to LaPaz-North Township Fire Chief Chris Oginsky.

At one point Tuesday afternoon, 50 to 60 firefighters were on the scene in the 14500 block of 5C Road near LaPaz.

Oginsky says the woman was disabled and couldn't get out herself. So, several by-standers, one of whom was a Marshall County deputy, jumped into action. They were able to get the woman to safety.

A total of four people were taken to the hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.

No firefighters were injured while working to put out the flames.

They say the home did collapse, so an excavator was brought in to help deal with some of the hot spots.

The State Fire Marshall's Office is trying to figure out how the fire started.
