Snow in traffic light may be factor in Elkhart County crash

Traffic light visibility may have played a role in accident at the busy intersection of US-20 and State Road 15 in Elkhart County.

Dispatchers say they got a call about the accident around 4:30pm Wednesday.

Police say the driver of a semi southbound on State Road 15 ran a red light, colliding with a semi heading west on US-20. The second semi's trailer then fell on top of a minivan in the turn lane of northbound State Road 15.

The driver of the first semi, which rolled over in the crash, tells FOX28 News he had trouble seeing the red light due to snow in the lens. When he realized the light was red, he says his truck started sliding.

The drivers of the semis were not taken to the hospital. People at the scene tell FOX28 News the people in the van were taken to the hospital. Police at the scene were not able to confirm their conditions.
