South Bend Community Schools says one student was taken to the hospital after an accident involving a van and a bus Thursday morning.

St. Joseph County Police say the accident happened shortly after 7:00am at US-20 and Pine Rd, just west of the South Bend Regional Airport.

According to a release from the school district, bus #237 was transporting 16 high school students when it was hit by a driver who ran a stop sign.

The driver of the van complained of chest pain following the crash.

The students on the bus were from Adams, Clay, Riley and Washington high schools. Parents were notified about the accident. One student was taken to the hospital by ambulance at the request of their parents. Another parent picked up their child at the scene. The other students were taken to school on another bus.
