President's executive order could drive up small business costs

The President is exercising some of his power in our nation's capital.

On Thursday, he signed an executive order that will strengthen rules on overtime pay.

It means more money for millions of workers who aren't currently paid for extra work hours.

While that may be exciting news for some workers, right here in Michiana, it has some local businesses concerned.

Saint Joseph County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jeff Rea says it could potentially have a negative effect, especially for smaller companies.

"It ultimately has an impact on employers as it could potentially drive costs up," he says. "And that's what most of our employers are concerned about."

But with that, Rea adds local businesses do want people to make decent wages.
