Deadline for Indiana residents to pay heating bills

Pay up or turn off, an important deadline is coming up for some Indiana residents.

Starting back in December, people who applied for the Energy Assistance Program could keep their heat on, regardless if they paid their bills or not. That ends Saturday.

However, Penn Township Trustee Janet Whitfield-Hyduk says don't go into panic mode just yet. "People usually have a little bit of grace time," she says. "So they can get in, or they can get in to our office and get help. And we can help pay that before they actually get shut off. What we do is we call the utility company and ask for a disconnect date."

If you need help with your bill, you can turn to the Trustee's Office or REAL Services.
