Company meets with Plymouth officials to discuss asphalt plant plans

Posted:

Irving Materials Inc. (IMI) wants to put an asphalt and concrete plant in a Plymouth neighborhood, but many residents nearby aren't happy about it.

IMI met with Water, Street, Sewer, and other technical city departments Tuesday morning to discuss the technicalities of their zoning proposal.  Board members asked questions and requested more information from IMI.

A local resident that was at the meeting, Amanda Petrucelli, says she has concerns that were not answered at the meetings.  "If we do not get answers on [the] environmental factor," Petrucelli said, "then we are going to have to ask for an environmental impact statement."  She says residents have concerns of air pollution from both the concrete and asphalt plant that would be added to their neighborhood.

The City of Plymouth Panning Consultant, Ralph Booker, said IMI did not have all their answers to questions, but thinks they have an idea what they will need to know by their next meeting.  "I think he has to go back and do some additional research," Booker said, "and bring some of those concerns up at the public meeting; He did not have all the answers, but I think he knows what some of the questions are."

The next meeting is at 7:00pm on April 1st at the County Office Building in room 203.  The public is invited to attend.
