300 new jobs looking to be filled in Goshen

Posted:

Some great news if you're looking for a job, nearly 300 new jobs are up for grabs in the Michiana area.  It's all thanks to an RV manufacturing company that's hiring.

After some unsuccessful attempts to help her brother-in-law land a job, Stephanie Matheson brought him to the WorkOne job fair Wednesday. She said, "he got an interview, but then something happens like they don't need you or they don't want you. Any opportunity is better than no opportunity."

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development came out with some disappointing news Monday. Elkhart County's unemployment rate went up from 6.2% in December 2013 to 6.7% percent in January 2014. That's the highest rate Elkhart has seen since May of 2008. That's why news of new jobs is such good news right now.

Work One Communications Manager Chuck Knebl said they're not revealing the RV company that's hiring, but they're looking to bring on 300 new employees, and that's something that could help chip away at the unemployment number.  He said, "the jobs we're talking about are all in the Goshen area. Starting wages are between 9 to 12 dollars an hour." He said the unnamed RV company is filling all kinds of positions, from a number of welders to the warehouse division ranging from managers and supervisors.

Knebl said those who were running the job fair he talked to say they're very happy with the turnout and they've had a lot of qualified people come through. He said within the first couple hours, nearly 200 applicants showed up, and they even ran out of applications.

Matheson said she's been to a number of job fairs and this one seemed promising. "We're from Elkhart this is Goshen, this is us trying to get a job."
