Small fire breaks out on Notre Dame campus

Posted:

Right around the time tornado sirens were being tested across Michiana, alarms were going off at Notre Dame for a small fire on campus.

The fire broke out around 10:15am on the southeast side of McKenna Hall according to Notre Dame Spokesman Dennis Brown. The fire was limited to an underground ventilation on the exterior of the building.

While the fire was quickly extinguished, the leaves that caught fire in the space sent smoke through the underground tunnels to South Dining Hall. Alarms in the dining hall were triggered and the building was evacuated.

There were no injuries reported, and no significant damage to any buildings identified.
