Elkhart schools announce plan for snow make-up days

Posted:

Elkhart schools has announced how they plan to make up the many days of school missed this year because of the harsh winter.

"Despite those efforts, an unprecedented 12 student instructional days have been lost due to brutal weather conditions and we have had to consider all options for making up lost instructional time," said Superintendent Rob Haworth in a written statement.

The district will add six days onto the end of the school year, making the new last day of school June 6.  They will also stop early dismissal on Wednesdays.  Elkhart schools had been dismissing 45 minutes early fir teacher collaboration and training.

The superintendent says this plan will enable the district to get the instruction time needed without interfering with Summer School programs and impacting family vacation plans as little as possible.
