Four homicides in St. Joseph County so far in 2014


After a fatal stabbing in South Bend Friday morning, FOX28 checked into the status of other homicide's in St. Joseph County this year.  So far in 2014, there have been four homicides, including Friday's stabbing.

The third homicide happened earlier in the week.  South Bend Police say 19-year-old Cornell Taylor was shot at Fremont Park.  He later died at the hospital.  Police are still searching for the suspect, 18-year-old Shyheem Jones, who is accused of pulling the trigger.

The second murder of the year occurred earlier this month.  On March 10th, police say the body of Edward Kleinwaechter was found on a woman's front porch.  She reportedly came out of her West Marion Street home and made the discovery.  The coroner determined the 49-year-old victim died from a gunshot wound.  The case remains open.  No arrests have been made.

The first murder of the year in St. Joseph County happened back on February 23rd.  Officers were dispatched to a home in the 1800 block of South Pulaski Street.  That's where they found 21-year-old Christopher White dead in the basement.  Police said the suspect, 22-year-old Jacob Saye, shot White.  Saye is in custody, charged with murder.
