Benton Harbor feels blessed after tournament run

Posted:

High School basketball season in Michigan came to an end Saturday, but what a year it was for the Benton Harbor Tigers, who made it to the state championship.

"I'm just going to remember every moment on the court. It was my first time stepping on the floor at the Breslin," said senior Cortez Moore. "I hope the younger players try to make it back here."

The 2013-14 season was the first time the Tigers made it all the way to the state title game in 21 years.

While Benton Harbor (16-10) lost to Milan (24-3), the fact that the Tigers even made it as far as they did was pretty remarkable. They were not ranked heading into the tournament, and many people did not even have them picked to win their district.

Sure the Tigers are disappointed they could not win it all, but their coach knows they made their community proud.

"God is still good and [the basketball team] brought the city together," said Corey Sterling, BH Head Coach. "You know it's something to be proud about. There's love all over."

Benton Harbor High School will honor the boys basketball team Thursday March 27th at 3:30PM with a pep rally open to the public at the high school gym.
