ND hockey team can redeem themselves in NCAA tournament

Last year the Notre Dame hockey team ended their season with a bitter taste in their mouth.

The Irish Icers went in today the NCAA tournament as a number one seed, but got bounced in the first round by St. Cloud State in a 5-1 loss.

In a strange twist of fate, ND found out Sunday afternoon they'd be playing the same Huskies team in round one of the tournament this year.

Notre Dame's seniors are saying they still haven't gotten rid of that rotten feeling from last year, and they're expecting to be extra motivated when the puck drops this coming Saturday at 9:00PM.

"The fact that it's senior year is motivation enough. You know we were so close freshman year to brining the first national championship home and falling so short last year and two years ago not even making the tournament, it's motivation enough that we have one more crack at it," said defenseman Stephen Johns. "To be able to go as deep as possible in this tournament would be huge for this program and hopefully we can bring home a national championship. I think we all understand there's a big job ahead of us Saturday night and that's the first thing we need to focus on."

The game will be telecast on ESPNU for Notre Dame fans who do not make the trip to Minneapolis to follow the Irish hockey team.
