Dead animals found in alley were shot to death

Posted: Updated:

Over 20 deceased animals, mostly cats and squirrels, were found killed in a South Bend alleyway on Sunday, March 23, according to South Bend Police and South Bend Animal Care and Control.

On Tuesday, South Bend Police announced many of the animals had been "shot with a projectile such as a BB or pellet."  Officials say the animals were all found on the 700 block of East Indiana Ave.

Inventory is still being done and the level of decomposition varies greatly among the bodies that have been found. Because of this, it is suspected that this location is where the animals were dumped rather than killed.

No dogs or raccoons were found, and the sizes of the animals tended to be relatively small.

Authorities are asking the public to help and to offer up any leads or information they might have.  If you have any information on this case, you are asked to call South Bend Police at 574-235-9201.
