Businesses profit from ND hosting tournament round

Notre Dame will host the Sweet 16 round on Saturday afternoon, and that means more traffic for the businesses along Eddy Street. Businesses located across the street from campus have seen more customers coming through their doors.  "Well, I would have to say that it's probably been twice as busy today (Friday) as it has been the past few days," said Outpost Sports Assistant Manager Carmen Butus.

Retail wasn't the only businesses fans in town for the tournament were visiting. Restaurants saw their number of orders rise. O'Rourke's Manager Shelly Freitag says their lunch hour on Friday was much busier.  "Lunch lasted a lot longer than normal," she said.

The increase in customers was also the case for The Mark. "Last night, we were very busy. We were booked solid all through the night. Lots of large parties," said The Mark Manager Jessica Quintanillla.  "Same with tonight (Friday), we're starting to get our regular Friday business in addition to all of our additional business."

While there has been an increase at these restaurants already, they say that Saturday and Sunday are the days that will really be packed with hungry fans.

"We've increased our orders," Shelly said.  "We've added more staff on throughout the day, and we just kind of gave everyone the pep talk of expect anything."

"We have lots of reservations all weekend. Very booked [with] lots of large parties," Jessica said. "[We're] having to move people back and forth here and there so were solidly booked."

The first game scheduled for Saturday is at 12:00pm between Kentucky and Baylor. The Irish will play Oklahoma State right after that game at 2:30pm.
