Students do community service to celebrate Cesar Chavez day

Perfect weather Sunday to do some yard work. Students from IU South Bend were out in the garden.

It was all in the name of community service. The student volunteers spruced up the Potawatomi Community Garden.

It's to honor Cesar Chavez's work as a labor activist for farm workers, including immigrant communities.

"Right now we have about nine volunteers working in the community garden and we'll have more than 60 IU South Bend students and faculty working tomorrow," says volunteer Chaise Cope.

Cope says the community service continues in honor of Cesar Chavez, Monday.

Volunteers will be reading to students at six local schools.
