Notre Dame fans pack Purcell Pavilion for Elite 8

Posted:

It was a sold out crowd at Purcell Pavilion Monday night as the Notre Dame Women's basketball team took on Baylor in the NCAA Elite 8.

That means nearly 10,000 fans were there to catch the game in person and see Notre Dame beat Baylor 88 - 69.

Fans lined up well before tipoff, excited for a matchup with a lot riding on it: a trip to the Final Four in Nashville.

"This is the last time Notre Dame got beat on this floor, was against Baylor and I think they can do it this time," says Notre Dame fan, Charles Buzek.

Fan Brenda Nierzwicki agrees, "They beat us the last time on our home court, so we're out for revenge." Nierzwicki and her friends have been to every Notre Dame Women's home game this season, and they weren't going to miss this one!

Other fans, weren't as familiar with the Purcell, but they were just as excited to be there. "This is my first women's basketball game ever," says Notre Dame fan Jeff Painter. "I just watched them on Tv and they're just so exciting to watch," he says.

Fans say the players' teamwork is most impressive. "They don't rely just on one player. They're a team. They play as a team," says Buzek.

Notre Dame fans are confident that they'll be national champs.

Most fans at the Elite 8 game say they won't be able to make it to the Final Four in Nashville, but they'll be there in spirit.
