Microsoft offering Windows 8.1 update while ending support for XP

Microsoft has announced a free update to Windows 8.1 to coincide with their end of support for Windows XP.  The free update coming April 8 is designed to improve the experience for mouse and keyboard users.

Among some of the changes: the taskbar will now be accessible from anywhere in the system, including the start screen.  Users will also be able to pin modern apps to the taskbar.

On April 8, will stop also supporting the Windows XP operating system.  The lack of software support can open security holes in your system.

Experts remind users that their machine won't immediately become insecure on April 8, but the lack of technical support and the end of support from third parties over the next few years will slowly make computers using XP a tempting target for hackers.  It is recommended that XP users get a more modern operating system when possible.
