ND women beat Maryland, advance to championship game

Posted:

The Notre Dame women have beaten Maryland in the Final Four, 87-61.

Plenty of Irish fans walking down Broadway street in Nashville Sunday night with big smiles on their faces.

All week people were worried about how the Irish would play without Natalie Achonwa, but Sunday's Final Four performance in the Music City changed their tune.

Things looked rough for Notre Dame out of the gate with Maryland attacking the basket at will, but once Kayla McBride got going, the Irish could not be stopped.

The well-oiled offensive machine we've been accustomed to seeing this season showed up big time.

About midway through the second half Notre Dame built their lead to over 20 points and would never look back.

The Irish are headed to their third championship game appearance in the last four years and fans are hoping the third time's the charm.

Notre Dame will face the winner of the UConn- Stanford game in the championship game.

FOX28's Adam Shear is in Nashville with the team. He'll have live reports Sunday on FOX28 News at 10, and Monday morning on the FOX28 Morning Show from 6-9am.

The championship game is Tuesday at 8:30pm et.
