Notre Dame Loses To UConn in Championship game

The Notre Dame women's basketball team saw their chance at a perfect season end on Tuesday night.

University of Connecticut beat Notre Dame 79-58 to win the National Championship at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Huskies finished the season at a perfect 40-0 while the Irish add to the loss column for the first time this season finishing 37-1. Senior guard Kayla McBride led the Irish with 21 points. Sophomore guard Michaela Mabrey finished with 10 points and sophomore guard Jewell Loyd with 13 points were the only other Notre Dame players in double digits.

The Huskies were led by Breanna Stewart and her 21 points. Stefanie Dolson added 13 points in route to a double-digit win.

This was the ninth championship for the Connecticut women's basketball program. With this win Tuesday night and the men's win on Monday night, UConn swept both NCAA Championships.
