Reward increased for arrest in dead cats case in South Bend

Posted:

Last month, we told you more than 20 animals were found dead in a South Bend alley, many of them cats.

Alley Cat Allies originally put up a $750 reward for a tip that led to an arrest. On Wednesday, the organization announced they've increased the award to $1,500 thanks to a private donor.

Alley Cat Allies says the donor doesn't live in South Bend anymore, but has ties to the area and said they wanted to help.

Police have a person of interest, but are asking for a witness to make a statement before they go forward.

"I hope once the police have concluded their investigation and an arrest is made and it indeed goes to trial and this person is found guilty, that this is treated as, as serious a crime as it really is," says Aileen Walden with Alley Cat Allies.

If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP.
