SR 15 in Goshen closed for nearly five hours due to gas leak

Posted:

State Road 15 in Goshen was closed for nearly five hours Tuesday after a gas main bust near Parkside Elementary School.

NIPSCO representatives say a Goshen city crew was working to repair a water main at approximately 10:00am when they struck a four-inch gas line at the intersection of State Road 15 and Lafayette. State Road 15 was closed from Plymouth Ave. to College Ave. initially, before being opened up to limited traffic and completely re-opened shortly before 3:00pm.

Residents could hear the line leaking, but no one was evacuated beyond the intersection of State Road 15 and Lafayette. Goshen Schools announced that Parkside Elementary students who would need to go in the direction of the leak to walk home would be held until they could be picked up.

While streets have been re-opened, NIPSCO crews are still working to repair the line and could not predict when they would be finished.
