Bloomberg announces new gun-control effort to counter NRA

A new gun control effort is heading to Indiana, along with 14 other states, led by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.  Bloomberg says he plans to spend $50 million this year to directly counter the influence of the National Rifle Association.

Bloomberg's organization, Everytown for Gun Safety, says it will work to increase background checks, keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, and reduce gun trafficking.

"Gun violence touches every town in America," reads the organization's website. "For too long, change has been thwarted by the Washington gun lobby and by leaders who refuse to take common-sense steps that will save lives."

FOX News reports that the group will be targeting their efforts on 15 states.  Those states include some where new gun control have recently been put in place as well as more traditionally "gun-friendly" states such as Indiana, Texas, and Montana.
