Timeline of violence in South Bend

Posted:

Seven people have been killed in South Bend since the beginning of this year.  They aren't just another statistic, though.  They are people that have real families who are suffering.

The first victim in 2014 was 21-year-old Christopher White.  He was killed February 23 at a home on South Pulaski.  A suspect, 22-year-old Jacob Saye, has been arrested by police.

On March 10, police say the body of Edward Kleinwaechter was found on a woman's front porch on West Marion. The 49-year-old was shot to death. No arrests have been made.

19-year-old Cornell Taylor was shot to death at Freemont Park on March 18.  Police are still searching for the suspect, 18-year-old Shyheem Jones.

Police have a suspect behind bars in the March 21 murder of 27-year-old Matthew Mitchell.  Brian McNeill is accused of stabbing Mitchell to death last month at a home on Rush Street.

There is also a suspect custody in the death of 21-year-old Tyrone Kelly.  He was shot March 26 on North Johnson Street. Suspect Joilise Crossley is charged with Voluntary Manslaughter.

Police say two-year-old John Swoveland, Jr. was shot by a stray bullet April 9.  That's still an active investigation.  Prosecutors say there are no suspects in custody.

The latest victim of violence in South Bend is 18-year-old high school student Nathan Hall, killed April 16.  No suspects have been named in his death.
