Friends react to death of High School senior

Posted:

"I cried, definitely cried.  My adrenaline was pumping. My legs were shaking. My hands were shaking, just in shock."  That's how Karen Popoca said she reacted when she first heard Wednesday afternoon that her friend Nathan Hall had been shot and killed.

She said it's the reaction almost everyone had at the teen's school, Clay High School.  "Oh my gosh, so many people were crying.  So many people," said Popoca.

The shooting happened on Adams Street.  Hall's bike was part of the crime scene.

Popoca said, "Even guys I wouldn't expect to be crying, cried."

Popoca said she's known Hall since 4th grade. "He's the sweetest person ever, he's so goofy, he's really sweet. He's sarcastic.  You never see him down. In school you always see him trying to cheer somebody else up.  He's just fun to be around."

Wednesday evening, other friends remembered Hall the same way, as they laid flowers at a memorial now set up where he was fatally shot.  "He was just a goofy guy, he's always making everybody laugh.  He'd walk in a room he'd just make you laugh," said Mackenzie Teeter.

Friends said they'll always remember the active student athlete as a guy who was friends with everyone.  "So many people are so upset they can't see him smiling anymore," said Popoca.

The Principal of Clay High School released a statement about Hall's passing.  That can be viewed here.

Friends say Hall may have been on his way home from work when he was killed.  They said Hall worked at a local fast food restaurant.
