Kids were running about the Tolson Community and Youth Center in Elkhart Saturday morning looking for Easter eggs. This was the 5th annual Easter Egg Hunt held in the Elkhart area. The idea was proposed by the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy.

The groups and organizations involved have increased in numbers over the years. This year's sponsors included the Tolson Center, the City of Elkhart, Ancon Construction, Heritage Acceptance Corporation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Elkhart County, Minority Health Coalition, Decker Entertainment, Mulligan's 4 Life, Pillars of Elkhart, Randy Leliaert Agency and the Elkhart Housing Authority and Divine Beauty Social Club.

There were several activities for the children including coloring Easter bunny pictures, trading in eggs for candy and hoping to win some of the raffle prizes. Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Elkhart, Stephanie Patka says this event is about giving the children of the community an activity to do for the Easter weekend. She says the event has grown every year with not only the people coming to the event, but also the organizations involved.

"It's just really representative of how the community comes together, celebrates each other and provides things for people to do," Patka says.

Patka estimates that nearly one hundred children were in attendance. That is the highest number in the five years the egg hunt has been held.
