Brey: Grant still plans to return to ND

After being suspended from Notre Dame in January, there was some concern whether or not shooting guard Jerian Grant would in fact return to campus or forgo his eligibility and enter the NBA draft.

Wednesday at Mike Brey's annual "Men of Heart" event, which encourages cardio exercises for men in conjunction with the American Heart Association, the Notre Dame head coach put to rest any rumors that Jerian would declare for the draft.

"Jerian will be back June 15th for Summer School," said Brey. "We're excited to have him back. He was out here for a week getting all his paperwork submitted to be readmitted during the spring game weekend and he played pick-up with some of our guys. He's full-speed ahead for June 15th and he'll be back with us when we go on the foreign tour."

Jerian's younger brother Jerami decided to leave Syracuse last week to pursue his dream of playing professionally. Jerami was just a sophomore, which is why there was speculation Jerian might also decide not to return to school despite not graduating.

"I wondered about that for about two weeks after he left us at the end of the semester, but it became very clear from him and his family that they were going to come back graduate here in December and play basketball," said Brey, when asked if there was ever concern about Grant returning. "It was full speed ahead that way and there was never really any concern after about two weeks."

Before being suspended due to an academic violation, Jerian was the leading scorer for the Irish, averaging 19.0 points per game, in 12 games of action. Grant's father Harvey and his uncle Horace both played in the NBA for multiple seasons.
