Water Protection Working Group searching for solutions to contaminated water problem

You shouldn't have to think twice when you're drinking water from your tap, but for many in Granger and other areas of St. Joe County it is a constant concern.  Health experts have found high levels of nitrates in water drawn from wells.

A group has been working to help solve the problem.  It's called the Drinking Water Protection Working Group.  They met Wednesday to discuss the problem.  Notre Dame Emeritus Professor of Biology Ronald Hellenthal is a member of the group.  "It's not a simple thing to unravel and that's the task of this group, to try to understand what the problem is, where it's serious and then to try and find solutions," he says.

If you live in the county and haven't had your well water tested, health experts say you should.
