Local soldier honored with Purple Heart award

A local soldier was honored with the Purple Heart on Thursday.

Staff Sergeant Jesse Williams was killed back in December of 2013 while serving our nation in Afghanistan. His black hawk helicopter crashed killing him and his fellow soldiers.

"When I wake up in the morning he's the first thing I think of," says Debbie Passerallo the mother of Sgt. Williams.

Three medals were awarded to his family.  His family appreciates the honor but still struggle with the reality.

"I'm not sure sometimes you think its one of the best things he could of been honored with, then there's other times you think its just a piece of metal, when you think of Jesse who was like bigger than life," says Passerallo.

Williams mother says the family plans on having a fundraiser in Jesse's name next month.  The event will be called Jesse's Warrior's and will help other soldiers that are currently serving our country.
