Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joe County trying to get more kids off the streets and into positive programs

Leaders with The Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Joe County are offering their suggestions to curb the violence.  They held a news conference Thursday to talk about the programs available to teens.

There is a specific area for teens to hang out in after school at the location on Sample Street.  Organizers say they wish the suspects involved in the shooting death of John Swoveland Jr. would have have been at the club instead of on the streets.

Jory Fitzgerald Kelly is the President of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joe County.  "It saddens me.  It saddens our Boys and Girls community," she says referring to the toddler's death.  "It only reaffirms our belief in the importance of the work that we do and our investment in programs that will hopefully provide alternatives to children being on the streets."

The club aims to help just some of the four million teens across the country who go unsupervised after school.
