Berrien County Clerk petitions to postpone recall election

The Berrien County Clerk's office is seeking a court order to put the Benton Harbor mayoral recall election on hold.  The request was announced after Rev. Edward Pinkney was arrested on fraud charges in connection to petitions for the recall election.

Pinkney is accused of changing original dates on signatures on his recall petition.  Based on the investigation, Clerk Sharon Tyler asked the Berrien County Trial Court to cancel the May 6 election and have it not rescheduled until after the petitions can be reviewed and Pinkney's case is concluded.

FOX28 News has reached out to both Mayor James Hightower and his opponent, Marcus Muhammad, for comments on Friday's developments. Muhammad declined comment at this time. We are still waiting to hear back from Hightower.
