Officers and dispatcher to be honored for response to Martin's shooting

The City of Elkhart is honoring the officers and dispatcher who responded to the fatal shooting at an Elkhart Martin's in January.  Corporals Cody Skipper and Jason Tripp were honored in Indianapolis this past March by the governor.

The two men were the first law enforcement on the scene where Shawn Bair opened fire on several people inside the Martin's Super Market on East Bristol.  Bair killed, 20-year-old store employee Krystle Dikes and 44-year-old shopper Rachelle Godfread, before Skipper and Tripp shot and killed him.  Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill says the officers acted reasonably during the shooting.

On Sunday, Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore will hold an awards presentation at the Lerner Theatre.  The presentation begins at 3:00pm, and the public is invited to attend.
