Local Sports Fans react to Sterling's "banned for life" punishment

"It was a big distraction to the fans, the players, and the coaches around the whole NBA and something had to be done quickly about it," said NBA fan, Dion Bingham of Clippers Owner Donald Sterling's racist remarks.

Most basketball fans we spoke to Tuesday said the punishment, a 2.5 million dollar fine and being banned from the NBA for life, is fitting.

Scott Manwaring said, "I think it's Adam Silver putting his fist down. He's the new commissioner and he wants to set a precedent so I think he's kinda right in doing that, that this stuff is not tolerated in the league."  Chris Nelson said, "I'm all for what the Commissioner did. I think that was the right thing."

But not everyone holds that opinion.  NBA fan Andrew Gilmore said, "I think the punishment might be a little extreme and driven by social media and all that stuff. I don't agree with the man obviously but at the same time it feels like he's entitled to some type of privacy in the things he says when people aren't listening."

Either way, now all fans are waiting to see if Sterling will sell the team.  Most fans we spoke with Tuesday said they think Sterling should sell the team.  One fan said Sterling owes that to the Clippers' fans.
