People of Detroit carry lowest debt levels in U.S.

Good news for Detroit Michiganders.

Despite the city of Detroit being broke, according to Experian, people living in the city carry the lowest amount of debt in the country. On average, a typical Detroiter has an average debt of $23,604. That average debt in the U.S. is just over $28,000.

To come up with their statistics, the credit company looked at the average debt across the 20 largest U.S. metro areas.
They took credit card, auto, personal, and student loan debt into consideration to create the list.

L.A., Miami, New York, and Boston round out the top five cities of people with the lowest average debt. Dallas, Texas takes home the prize for having the largest debt.
