Notre Dame receives $75 million donation

Schools across the nation regularly get gifts and donations to better their school. On Friday, Notre Dame got the gift of a lifetime.  The University received $75 million from trustee and alumnus John "Jay" Jordan. This is the largest donation Notre Dame has seen, and this makes Jordan the most generous benefactor, giving a total of $150 million.

Notre Dame says the money will go to science research, something the University wants to be put on the map for. Which area of science, the University isn't sure yet. Lou Nanni, Vice President of University Relations says, "[Jay] believes that this country cannot lose its competitive edge. We can never spend enough money, in his words, on technology, and new and emerging technologies."

Jordan graduated from Notre Dame in 1969, and has served as a trustee since 1993. Jordan is from Chicago and owns a private investment firm.
Two of Jordan's children graduated from Notre Dame.
