Life saving Click It or Ticket begins May 9th

Posted:

The La Porte Police Department wants to remind you to Click It or Ticket. Starting May 9th, officers will be stepping up their seat belt enforcement. Their efforts are part of a national Click It or Ticket mobilizations that runs from May 19th through June 1st. As people take to the roads to enjoy their Memorial Day weekend, officers nationwide will make sure you are buckled up while doing so.

Tom Heath, captain of La Porte Police Department, says “Memorial Day weekend kicks off summer vacation season, and we want to ensure that everyone arrives at their destination safe and sound. If you are not wearing your seat belt, you will be ticketed. The La Porte Police Department will be working 120 hours of grant funded extra patrols during the blitz period.”

According to new data from the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 10,335 people who died in car crashes last year were not wearing their seat belt. Captain Tom Heath says he his determined to bring that number down.
