Stamp Out Hunger drive collects more than 100,000 pounds of food

Posted:
Mail carriers carried a pretty heavy load, Saturday, picking up donations for the food bank of Northern Indiana.

It's for the annual Stamp Out Hunger campaign. Folks were asked to leave non-perishable food items for their mail carriers to pick up.

So far, more than 110,000 pounds of food were donated this year.

Marijo Martinec with the Food Bank of Northern Indiana says,  "This is an opportunity that the Letter Carrier's Association all across the country are going out and asking community residents to once again, feed the hungry."

The food bank will have an official count Monday after they pick up what was left in donation bins at local Kroger stores.

Last year,128,000 pounds were collected.
