Elkhart kidnapping suspect arrested in Marshall County

A kidnapping suspect has been arrested after a Bremen police officer says he saw a woman leaning out of a car window screaming for help.

Bremen Police Chief Matt Hassel says the officer saw the car drive by him around 4:45am on Wednesday while he was patrolling near SR 311 and SR 106.  Officer Nick Young reported the woman was "hanging out the driver's side rear window" screaming for someone to help her.

According to the chief, Officer Young pulled the car over and the woman told him she and her 2-year-old child had been abducted by 21-year-old Jesus Hernandez of Elkhart.  Police say the suspect knew the woman before the abduction.

Hernandez is facing possible charges of kidnapping, domestic battery, carjacking, operator never licensed, and child endangerment.  He is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail awaiting formal charges.
