Mishawaka remembers fallen officers

The Mishawaka community remembered it's fallen officers Wednesday.  The Mishawaka Police Department and the public remembered the city's four fallen officers and a fallen  K-9.
Family members of those officers placed flowers at a monument in front of the department.  This week is National Fallen Officer Week and and the department holds this service every year.

Mishawaka Police Chief, Kenneth Witkowski says it's always bittersweet: "It really pulls at your heart strings, to tell you the truth. It brings back memories of tragic events that happened to us here in Mishawaka. It's very close to home. But it's also a good time to reflect and also, a good time to see family members you haven't seen in a year."

Mishawaka's last fallen officer was Corporal Jim Szuba and his K-9 Ricky.   They died in the line of duty on January, 9th, 2010.
